One of the most important data points in Slate is the “Tags” export/filter. This filter is most often used to remove test records and should generally be used every time you build a query. When you select the “Tag” filter, you will be presented with three filter options: Deceased, Opt Out, Test Record

  • Deceased indicates if that individual is deceased. While the number of records marked as deceased is extremely small, it is still a good idea to suppress these individuals from future communications.
  • Opt out indicates if that individual has opted out from electronic communications. These individuals absolutely must be removed from any communications.
  • Test Record indicates if that record is a fabricated test record. While there is technically no harm in including these records in communications, their presence can cause obvious issues with queries and reporting.

The Unsubscribe Management Page located on the Person Record allows Slate Users to treat unsubscribes at a more granular level; something that the historical Opt-Out Tag was unable to do. (The Opt-Out Tag was introduced when email was the only mode of communication within Slate and there were no Message Groups.)

The Unsubscribe Management Page displays information if the Rank 1 Email Address is unsubscribed from All Communications or from any Message Group and if the Rank 1 Mobile Phone Number is unsubscribed from communications.
